Yet in these more environmentally-aware days, miniature toiletries are becoming less common and it's all about the large, refillable shampoo and liquid soaps in hotel rooms these days. Conditioner is now seen a lot less and a fancy body lotion even less than that. If this carries on I'll actually have to start taking toiletries with me for a hotel stay but right now I'm not ready to make that change.
An item that is appearing more frequently these days in hotel bathrooms is the shower cap. Never one to turn down a freebie, I've accumulated quite a stash even though I rarely wear one in the shower. But, when I had to do a muddy walk (don't ask) and only had new canvas shoes with me I had an inspired idea: I put a shower cap over each shoe, while I was wearing them! Yes, not classy but it got me through the walk and the shoes survived.
This got me thinking about other uses for disposable shower caps and I've compiled a list of some of my favourite ideas.
A Flight Attendant gave me this tip and it's not as daft as it sounds. Think about those late night hotel movies that are pay-per-view and think about how they're ordered. Yep, you won't be touching a hotel room remote control again after that, eh?
Kitchen: Food Cover
Better than cling film, if you want to put plates of food out for guests a shower cap is easier to take off and you can use it again. The elastic holds it on place, you can see what's on the plate or in the bowl, and it's loose enough to not squash your food.
Garden: Protect Seedlings
Place the shower cap over new plants to act as a little greenhouse and keep the warmth and moisture inside.
Out & About: Bicycle Seat Cover
Sure, we often end up cycling in the rain but it can be nice to have a dry seat at the start of the journey. A shower cap fits over a bicycle seat easily and can be used again and again.
If you're using an iPad for a recipe and have mucky hands, or are mending the car, or decorating the house, pop a shower cap over the tablet and you can still use it while not getting food, oil, paint, etc over the screen.
Right, there are a gazillion other uses for disposable shower caps but I want to hear your best ideas. Come on, do share in the Comments below.
